We all know Tom Cruise loved Dubai and Dubai loves Tom Cruise. I mean who can forget him climbing Burj Khalifa in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and attending the Dubai International Film Festival in 2011.
But we may not know that he's just as beloved on the Croisette and alas, has been absent since May 18, 1992, when he attended Ron Howard’s Far and Away, the closing film of the 45th Festival.
This May, Top Gun hero Maverick will be back in cinemas all over the world and Tom Cruise will return to the Festival de Cannes. Thirty years to the date he was last on the Cannes stage, the Festival de Cannes will pay him an exceptional tribute for his lifetime achievements. On that very day, thirty years later, Tom Cruise will have a special on-stage conversation with journalist Didier Allouch in the afternoon, part of a special tribute to the his career and will later on walk up the steps of the Palais des Festivals for the evening screening of Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski.
Top Gun: Maverick sees the return of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he keeps pushing the envelope after years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators. Soon enough, he must confront the past while training a new squad of graduates for a dangerous mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice. Will he make it? Well, this is Tom Cruise after all...
The French release for the film is slated for May 25th, 2022 with the US release on Friday, May 27th. It is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Tom Cruise, David Ellison and Christopher McQuarrie, distributed in France by Paramount Pictures France and in the United States by Paramount Pictures.
