A.R. Rahman’s new romantic musical '99 Songs' to be released

Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman’s new romantic musical 99 Songs is set to be released in UAE cinemas this week. Rahman has also co-written the screenplay (his debut as a writer) as well as creating music and producing.

The musical drama features newcomers Ehan Bhat, Tenzin Dalha and Edilsy Vargas (who featured in action-drama Peppermint, alongside Jennifer Garner. Aditya Seal, Lisa Ray and Manisha Koirala also co-star. The film is being released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, the film has been released by Jio Studios, produced by A.R. Rahman’s YM Movies and has been co-produced by Ideal Entertainment. 99 Songs is about a struggling singer named Jai (Bhat), who dreams of becoming a composer, and his relationship with his girlfriend Sophie (Vargas). The film had its premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in 2019, but release has been hampered by Covid restrictions.
